ABOUT NATEN

The Network for Agricultural Technical Education of Nigeria (NATEN) was formed in May 2016 by Seven (7) Colleges of Agriculture and related discipline, supported by the USAID (Winrock International Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) Program in Nigeria).

NATEN was formed as a result of the identification of the following problems:
* Low enrollment of youths in agricultural-based programs, especially in mid-level tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
* Lack of adequate funding for agricultural-based training programs in Nigeria.

Given the magnitude of potential that the agriculture sector has for contributing to food security; the national economy; and employment of young people (the fastest growing demographic in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa), it was critical to bridge the gap between agriculture education and employment in the agriculture sector.
This necessitated an organization that could facilitate more funding to the aforementioned tertiary institutions, encourage vouth enrollment in agriculture, globally competitive skills and facilitate the engagement of youths in the agricultural value chains.
